I hope you readers enjoy this second part of this story. And now after reading your feed back I hope this bit has a bit more storyline to it.

Pt2
1020 Hours, May 14, 2553 (Military Calendar)/ UNSC Alpha Camp, Pri City.

Roberts’ dropship had touched down ten minutes beforehand, his squad had hiked through the empty city streets to Alpha Camp. The members of the other dropship were also at the camp. The camp it self wasn’t much of a fortress. The humans had managed to take control of a small office building in the middle of the city. They had three Warthogs and one Scorpion. In total though, there were fifty-four marines, who had made up for the camp’s lack of machinery. The Phantoms had touched down on the outskirts of the city and had unleashed ninety extra troops into the area.
A Banshee flew over head and was followed by a Skyhawk jet. The jet fired it’s guns and shredded the alien aircraft to pieces.
Roberts had been assigned the job of patrolling the area with his squad and two of the Warthogs. The vehicles split up and drove in opposite directions around the defensive perimeter. Roberts’ Warthog had only driven about a block from camp when they had run into a pair of Ghosts. The gunner, Private Shaft unleashed a hail of bullets into the closest vehicle. It went up in a fireball and crashed into a building. The other Ghost fired it’s weapons and one of the blasts caught Shaft in the side. He stopped firing and slumped against the turret.
“Are you okay?” yelled the Corporal over the sounds of plasma fire and the barking of a Battle Rifle.
“I think so.” Shaft answered.
The marine straightened up and pulled the LAAG’s triggers. The second Ghost blew up.
The marine in shotgun was Private Launceston, he blurted out,
“Sir, Jackals!”
The corporal steered the Warthog around to give Shaft a better angle. The trio of Jackals that had emerged from hiding got a nasty surprise. The chaingun’s 12.7 mm bullets ripped through the aliens bodies. They fell in a heap and Roberts pushed the accelerator to the floor and continued patrolling the area.

Rugfar strapped himself into the Phantoms pilot seat. Gorgoine sat next to him in the co-pilot’s seat. The brute Captain, Kirad had just come aboard and had briefed them of their mission. Apparently the humans had taken a building from the Covenant and had quite a few soldiers there. The mission required him and Gorgoine to deliver fifteen brute majors to the building. Two more dropships would come loaded with Jackals and Drones. Once taken the building would be become yet another command post in the aliens long list.
Kirad walked into the cockpit again,
“The soldiers are in, let’s go.”
“Yes, sir.” Replied Rugfar.
As soon as the Captain had closed the door behind him Rugfar started the Phantom’s engines. The ship lifted from the ground and accelerated towards it’s target.

With three more blocks to go Roberts’ Warthog had almost finished it’s run. They had had no more run ins with the Covenant and were grateful for it. Shaft had started to bleed rapidly now and the Corporal decided to pull over and check the wound out.
“It’s not too serious, it’s just bleeding heaps. Launceston pass me some Biofoam spray.” Roberts said.
The Private obeyed and reached into a medipack and pulled out a small canister. He handed it to the Corporal, who then sealed up Shaft’s wound.
The Corporal’s radio suddenly stuttered, “Corporal Roberts, this is Alpha Camp. I want you to pull in your squad immediately. We’re under attack!”

The mission had so far been a success. The Brutes had slaughtered the camp’s outer defenders and had already taken the first floor of the building when the alien reinforcements had arrived. The captain stepped over a bundle of human bodies and jumped on top of a container.
“Well done my brothers. We have made our prophets proud. Now all we have to do is wait for the cannon fodder to get in here before we finish them off.”
Just as the brute had finished fifteen jackals and fifteen drones trotted and swarmed in through the building’s doorway.
“Finally, right, you lot get your hides up to the next level and slaughter all primates that you see,” the leader gestured at the new comers.
“Yes, leader,” was the reply as the thirty soldiers made their way up the staircase.
Unluckily for the brutes, just as their ‘cannon fodder’ had risen above the ground floor. The familiar sound of the human’s warthog’s engines could be heard. The grin on the brute leader’s face quickly disappeared as 12.7 mm rounds tore through his body.

Pt 3

1050 Hours, May 14, 2553 (Military Calendar)/ UNSC Alpha Camp, Pri City.

The Covenant attack had been a devastating one, only twenty-two marines were left alive and the one of their Warthogs had been destroyed. The Camp Leader, Major Leylands had ordered a squad of men to tidy up the ground floor. That spot was a mess. The body count was twenty-one dead marines and there were also twelve brute bodies down there. Roberts’ squad had done a fine job of killing the dozen alien creatures. Four other brute bodies had been found behind the wreckage of the destroyed Warthog. They had been killed while blowing it up.
Corporal Roberts made his way up to the top floor of the building, that section had been untouched by the fighting. The Major was waiting for him.
“Well done, Corporal,” the Major shook Roberts’ hand.
“It was nothing sir. Just timing.”
“Well I’m grateful son. You may have saved Alpha Camp. Did you know those brutes had slaughtered almost half of our forces. If they had continued…” the Major shook his head.
“What’s going on now, sir?” Roberts asked.
“First thing we’ve got to do is clean up, then I’ll ask for some reinforcements from the stations. We’ll make this base even stronger,” Leylands answered.
“What do you want me to do sir?”
“Help us burn those disgusting alien bodies.”

1500 Hours, May 14, 2553 (Military Calendar)/ Woolomba lake, near Pri City.

Private Count slogged through the marshy swamp next to the lake. He and his team had been out there for ages. He had come down in a Pelican, Sierra 056, and was headed for Pri City when a massive beam of energy had sliced through the ship’s left wing and they had crash-landed in the bog. He had guessed that an alien vessel had spotted them and had fired at them. The pilots had been killed, the pelican’s cockpit was under water. That was two hours ago. Now, he wondered whether the other reinforcements had made it to Alpha Camp. If they had, Alpha Camp would be able to refortify and fight back against the Covenant, but if they hadn’t made it, the Camp wouldn’t last long.
“Hey, Count, see anything,” their Sergeant called to him.
“Nothing but fog sir,” the Private answered.
The team continued on through the fog until the Private finally saw something.
“Sir, I see something up ahead. The whole area is lit up.”
“Hold up, Private,” was the answer.
Count turned back in the direction of his team and saw four marines emerge out of the fog.
Sergeant Baxter walked up beside Count.
“What do you think it is sir?” Count asked.
“No idea, Private. But I’m intending on finding out. Siers check the Nav map to see where we are and what we are looking at.”
“Yes, sir,” came a response from the marine standing at the back of the pack.
A moment passed and the marine spoke again,
“According to the map we’re two kilometers out from the city. This thing we’re looking at hasn’t been here for long. It wasn’t here yesterday.”
“Looks like it’s alien then. Right, marines check your weapons. Count, you’ve got point again,” Baxter ordered.
“Yes, sir.”

Kax, Nax, and their leader Gicas walked around one of the Scarab’s legs.
Their shields flickering in the darkness of the fog. Bits of sunlight filtered in through the branches of the trees above them.
The three Jackals had been patrolling the massive vehicle for an hour and were beginning to get squabbly.
“I’m sick of this! When is our shift over?” squawked Nax.
“Yeah, and why do they need us to patrol this thing anyway. They always have guards inside it.” Kax said.
“You two are hopeless, why should I have to have you two as my squad. I’ve told you this before, if someone doesn’t patrol the legs the humans could stick bombs on them and blow them off. Then this thing would be useless.” Gicas yelled.
Suddenly the bushes behind them rustled, and they turned to face the potential threat. They were just about to hose the bushes with plasma when, three round bursts of bullets ripped through their necks.

The Sergeant's plan had worked perfectly. While Private Reale was getting ready to distract the trio of Jackals the rest of the marines had positioned themselves in front of the aliens in another set of bushes. So when Reale moved the bushes the Jackals turned around and revealed their backs to the marines. Their accuracy was perfect and now there was nothing from stopping the marines from having a look around.
The Sergeant now realised the new threat to the city and had started to think of a plan to get rid of the monstrous machine.
There were bound to be other guards inside the Scarab, so he and his team couldn’t just trot in there and destroy its energy center.
There has to be another way to disable it, but what? He thought.
He looked at the legs of the Scarab and noticed there was a pivot point on each one. A weak spot.
Now he knew where to put an explosive, he needed an explosive to put there. A frag grenade would just bounce off. What he needed was something which could stick there.
Don’t plasma grenades stick to vehicles, he thought.
“Private Klasbow try and find me some plasma grenades,” the Sergeant ordered.
The private soon returned moments later with a bundle of alien explosives.
“Well done Private, where’d you find all those.”
“There’s a weapons cache over there sir,” said the Private pointing to a purple container.
“Good eyes soldier,” the Sergeant chuckled at his own blindness, “Right, Count, try to get one stuck to that pivot point there. That should damage it enough to disable the leg.”
The Private picked a grenade up armed it and aimed at the pivot. The blue white explosive stuck to the joint and three seconds later exploded.
“Well done soldier.”
