Halo: The Return Of 'Zamamee Part 1
Date: 27 November 2006, 9:22 pm
*This story is kind of like Halo 3, everything is settled, no more Flood, just Covenant.*
THE RETURN OF 'ZAMAMEE
Chapter One: The battle for the Master Chief.
SPARTAN-0117 John, or as his fellow soldiers referr to him as "The Master Chief" silently crouched in the thick swamp. He clicked his COM on, and signaled to his team, Team Blue. The radio transmission came to life as he flipped threw channels. He heard Linda's voice shortly after.
"Chief, is that you? Over" she asked, as if she knew he was on the other line. "Affirmative, I need backup, I have an itchy feeling that Covenant troops are up ahead. Over" he answered. Linda fell dead silent. Then, after what seemed like thirty grueling years, she answered. "I'm man the sniper, and I'll send Fred to your position. Over"
He killed the line, and felt a pang of regret. Were the Covenant there? Could there be more Marines on the other side, or is he just wasting his time. He heard a rustle, and lifted his Assualt rifle. He waited, half expecting a little animal, and half expecting a Covenant soldier.
The green bushes revealed none of the two, but John's good friend, and second in command Spartan, Fredric. The Master Chief lowered his gun, pointing the barrel of the gun toward the floor. Fred walked over to his friend. "So, what is the problem here, Chief?" he asked.
The Master Chief peeked through a small thorn bush, and spotted a Covenant Grunt, the sneaky little bastard somehow managed to keep off his radar, but how? John signaled for Fred to stay back. He ever so gently clicked the COM to inform Linda that there was definatly Covenant forces up ahead. The channel was blank, he had to whisper.
"Linda, are you there, answer me, over." John whispered into the COM. More silence. He was starting to get worried, so he started walking toward Linda's supposed location. Inan instant, he heard a loud CRACK. He and Fred ducked down, the trail of sniper smoke lingered over head.
The Master Chief now fully understood that Linda wanted to stay out of contact. Satisfied that Fred and he could advance, he charged, trying not to slosh in the water too much. They covered much ground in only thirty seconds, and after 2 minutes, they had trekked over thrity meters.
Fred started slowly making his way toward the next bush, and then, his Tracker Sensor exploded. 20 red dots all flashed a dangerous red on his screen, he stopped, cold and still, and let the Chief know of his encounter.
The MC nodded in approval as Fred warned him of the threat up ahead. The MC activated a fragment grenade, and hurled it up. Grunt chattering soon led to Grunt screechng as the shrapnel exploded into the air, killing four targets. The Chief still didn't want to engage 16 enemies, not to mention the wounded who would surely use grenades, so he let another fragment grenade go. A second explosion did little damage, but managed to handle three Grunts.
Fred reviewed their progress, if they were to charge up and kill the remaining Grunts, it would be 13 to two, Fred didn't like those odds, the MC seemed to not care them as well, since he ordered Fred to throw yet another shrapnel filled frag. Fred hurled it far, and the explosion destroyed a tree.
Little did the two Spartans know, that the tree exploded, letting large splinters fly out, stabbing and killing five Grunts. Two more Grunts were killed by sheer force, and four others were mowed down by the tree and shrapnel. That left two more Grunts to die, and the Master Chief and Fred loved those odds.
The two green Spartans sprinted ahead, keeping low, in case of Jackal snipers or Elites. One of the surviving Grunts was missing an arm, and blood led to his near-dead corpse. A little step from Fred's powerful boots incaved his skull. The second Grunt, however, was alive, and had a plasma cannon, an extemely dangerous weapon.
But two Spartans against a fear-stricken Grunt was overkill, as it took only two bullets from Fred's rifle to bring the alien down. Fred and the MC caught their breath, and advanced. They spotted three other foes on their HUD, and realized it was a trio of White Elites.
The Master Chief's heart sank. One Ultra was more than he could handle, dating back to when he had to destroy the Scarab. If it wasn't for his Marines' sniping at the top of the bridge, he would have been dead that day. Expecting to see them drop their Plasma rifles and readch for a sword, the MC threw a frag at the Elites. But the Ultras just jumped out of the way. Then, a squad of five blue Elites rushed out of the door that led to the Covenant facility.
Each wieding a needler, they fired the deadly weapons. Those needles tracked their targets, and they could easily kill in large numbers, the Chief tried to dodge, when a hose of plasma showered his armor. The Ultra was very capable with the Plasma rifle, very capable indeed. Fred tried to fire, but he was too slow, the Ultra had already splashed him with burning plasmatic orbs that depleated his energy shielf indefinatly.
Fred tried to dodge, but the two Ultras covered every blind spot, when his shields reached dangerously low, he knew he had to find cover. He jumped behind the trees, hoping that the Chief would do the same. But he didn't, instead, he stayed, firing, losing shields, and when his shields died, he still fought.
Fred felt his shields retunr, plus his inspiration had been super-boosted. Fredric lashed out, and fired his weapon fiercly. It penetrated the weak blue Elites, and brought one down to it's knees, suddenly, four CRACKS were heard, as the four blue Elites were killed.
Linda had managed to kill the Elites in only 2.134 seconds! The Ultras ducked behind the wall, expecting another flurry of bullets, but instead, four frag grenades were launched into their hideout.
The explosion was loud and annoying, but it was relieving to know that the aliens had been dealt with. Screams and blood escaped the door, and a Covenant head rolled toward the Chief.
The MC sat down, fidgeting with his injured shields. He COMed Linda, who answered. "Linda, I need Kelly and William, ASAP, over." The silence brought eeriness, but the cold female voice answered back. "Understood." Fred sighed and joined the Master Chief in relaxing, although they could snap to attention and fight back, why bother, there were no more threats to deal with.
In a few heartbeats, two fresh Spartans appeared, eager to battle. "So Chief, you seem to have been slacking off there." Will smirked. The Master Chief ignored him, and explained the plan.
"The Covenant have a plan, a big plan. One that includes this facility. I know that because they heavily guarded it." Will inquired. "Heavily guarded? I see nothing but some blue Elites and three Ultras." Kelly cut in "Plus twenty Grunts, and they attacked forcefully, not holding back."
"Exactly, that is why I think we should attack them as well. Blue Team is not enough for this mission. This battle is something bigger than all of us, bigger than Halo."
Dead silence fell over the Spartans, but Will cut through it like a sharp knife. "Come on, you are all overreacting, so the Covies have some sorta weapon here, big deal, it ain't Halo big. John looked at him, his black viewing helmet showing anger and impatience. "If you think that, why don't you just go in and fight, see how easy it is to infiltrate a Covenant facility without special forces.
Will shut up, but he wanted to talk more. "Now, I suggest we call in the Marines, and other Spartan soldiers, and make our way in---" he was cut off by a loud plasma fire.
"Enemy contact!" Will yelled. Kelly unraveled her Battle rifle, and shot in the darkness. A Jackal's shield blocked the attacks. And four Jackals rushed out. Will smiled. He loved to have to have to find little gaps in the shield, which he did very easily.
A Jackals was hailed to hell by Will's 2X scope pistol. The bullet flew behind the shield, hit the Jackal's cranium, and killed it. Three of the other Jackals met the same fate.
A Hunter pair rushed out of the doors, each wielding their deadyl cannons. Kelly caught a glimpse of the weapon charging, and she threw her 4 fragment grenades. The combined force and shrapnel managed to bring the beast to a hault, but it didn't kill it.
"No way!" she gasped. The Hunter charged, it swung it's mighty shield, and sent her flying three meters away. Will and Fred were having trouble fighting the other Hunter. After thirty seconds, Will tripped, and was crushed by the Hunter's boot.
"Guahhhhh!' he winced in pain. Fred sped up his pace, but made sure not to fall. The Hunter was so used to Fred backing off, that when Fred charged, he actually stopped. Allowing Fred to insert the barrel of his gun in the Hunters leathery abdomen. He gripped the trigger, and bullets ripped threw the Hunter, killing ti instantly.
Will was careful not to touch the still-lethal spines on the Hunter as he made his way toward Fred. He had cracked al of his ribs, and his bones were like twigs, every little step seemed to break another minor bone.
Kelly finally got to have a clear shot at the Hunter. With only three seconds left before the Hunter would go into beserk mod, Kelly gave a hand sign telling Linda to fire at the Hunter. Linda's sharpshooting brought the beast down with four clips, although the Hunter was still alive. The beast managed to fire at Kelly, and the Chief. Hitting both of them, and igniting a grenade, killing the Hunter ultimatly, but injuring the Spartans in return.
The corpse flew in the air, and landed on Will and Fred, the spikes on the Hunter's back cut through the Spartans like butter, tearing their flesh, and breaking their suit. Both soldiers cried out, alarming Linda.
Linda charged toward her fallen friends. Not only were they hurt, but they could be dead for all she knows. She called the Marine Care unit, and hoped for the best.
