Date: 26 November 2006, 11:06 pm
*This is a series, so I will try to post everything in one place. Please, I don't have spell check, so try and bear with me. Also, I do not know how to name guns, so I will be giving them basic names. *
HALO: THE PRICE OF FAILURE
Chapter 1= The Awakening
Private Vinny Pecillo sprinted about on the battlefield. He breathed in and out, gripping his gun tighter on every breath. He surveyed the carnage on the blood-filled dirt in front of him. Marines and Covenant alike laid on the cold ground, dead. He sat on the floor, his back against a boulder, relieved that he was safe, for now. The air was thick with death and shrapnel. His helmet was cracked on one end, exposing half helmet, and half of his black hair. His face was dirtied, and brown. It was as if dirt was ironed into his cheeks, especially his left one. He wielded an automatic Assualt rifle, one of his favorite guns. On his belt, three fragment grenades dangled from brown leather and a plasmatic grenade was tightly secured in a glass bottle.
The blood that brightened his marine cloaked jacket was that of a Grunt, the blue kind that seemed to hurt you eyes when you stared at it too long. It was gooey, and it smelled like raw chicken. Vinny spit on the ground, and got up. He managed to unravel his combat knife, and a fragment grendade. He grabbed a piece of duct tape, and taped the two weapons together. They hugged each other, as if nothing could seperate them. Vinny smiled, and looked over at the battlefield he had previously ran over. Not a Covie in sight, good, he cover more ground without them. He gathered his supplies, and made a wild dash for the city only a mile away.
The city of Donoton, New Jersey was a living kill-zone. Two groups of enemies were clashing. A large fleet of Covenant, and a large army of humans. A Covenant dropship fired it's plasma cannons, and sickly green energy spit out of the turrents. The human side fired their Pelican missles, and destroyed a dropship. Colonel Lewis White clicked the COM he was wielding. He scanned the channels, and finally stopped at 97.8AM. A Marine HQ official was waiting for a Marine to answer his distress call. "This is Marine HQ 45 Omega, what is your status? Over" the radio asked Lewis. Lewis sighed a relief sigh, and answered. "I have a large amount of Marines in my custody, they need dust-off, over." Lewis barked into the COM.
Dead silence fell over the COM, until a worried voice answered. "Where are you stationed? Over" Lewis grew impatient, the Covie bastards were almost threw hacking away at the gate that kept them out. "Repeat 678 New Jersey Donoton, repeat, 678 New Jersey Donoton. OVER!" Lewis screamed, as a plasma grenade was hurled into the Marines' base. The flickering orb exploded, injuring one ODST. Lewis felt his head bead down with sweat. The Covenant had succesfully destroyed the barrier, now, they were dead, nine needles flew into the base. They were that of a needler, only, they were specially designed for exploding in the inside. The sharp, pink needles flew toward the Colonel. One hit, he would be dead. He jumped for safety, but left the COM behind.
"NOOOO!!!" the Colonel shrieked as the needles targeted and latched on the COM. They detonated in three seconds, as they all simultaniously exploded and destroyed the COM. The Coloenl helplessly watched as his last resort for saving his men and women died away. His face was bottomless, filled with fear, anger, despair, pity, and sorrow. A tear ran down his already wet face. His lip quivered, and his hands stiffened. He blinked, and heard a large crashing sound. The Covenent, had arrived. A blue armored Elite led the chase, he wielded a plasma rifle. He squeezed his trigger, and fired his plasma bullets at the Marines. The Marines fought back, though. One PFC hurled a fragment grenade toward the oncoming assualt. The grenade popped, and pieces of metal penetrated three Grunts, killing them with ease.
A gold Elite, holding a plasma sword, gave a short grin. He commanded the fleet, and ordered two Hunters to rush into the interior. The Segeant in charge of the Marines ordered his men to pull back. Suddenly, the Hunter charged his Fuel Rod, and let go, emiting a beam of green plasma. The arm-held weapon's energy pulsed, and the wasted plasma dripped down to the floor, cold and harmless. The beam hit a Marine, and destroyed his suit, infusing him with the ballistic armor that covered him. He cried out, as a sharp piece lodged itself into his stomach. He feel to the ground, but detonated three fragment grenades, killing six Grunts and a Major Jackal.
Vinny Pecillo tried to catch his breath as he looked over at the city. He looked at the wasteladn, and saw something that practically grabbed his eye. A horde of Covenant soldiers were forcing their way into a Marine base, using their plasma fire and sheer numbers. Vinny felt his heart sink, how many humans are going to die in this war? He slapped himself in the face to wake himself up, and charged the Covenant.
The golden Elite was not nearly satisfied. Those wretched monkeys were still breathing, not acceptable. The Forerunners would be displeased. So he took another course of action, take all of his troops out of the Marine bay, and just bomb the damn thing from the outside. The plan, seemed to work perfectly, not only did he get the right angle, but if the Marines tried to escape, they would be hailed to hell with plasma fire, it was almost too easy for the Elite.
He screamed a phrase in the Covenant tongue, meaning "Burn those infidels to hell, and let their marrow sizzle, as we laugh in delight." A new rank of Elite has been added over the years of the Covie/Human/Flood/Heretic/Sentinel/SPARTAN war. That rank was just above Spec Ops, it was Engineer Elite. These Elites wore green armor, emerald for the veterans. They worked machinery, and weapon diagnostics.
The large cannon pointed at the human resistance, and was just about to fire, when a Battle rifle bullet encaved a Grunt's head. The blue blood that was inside of the skull exploded, popping like an inflated helium balloon. The golden Elite hissed, as he spotted the human with his eyes. He clicked his own COM, and signaled three Buggers to handle the human.
Vinny grinned in anticipation. Not only did he want the Buggers to come near him, he wanted them to fire at him as well. His wish was granted, and soon, three plasma pistols went beserk as the Buggers rapidly clciked their weapon.
Vinny quickly switched to his Assualt rifle, and pinned the Buggers down, one at a time. He was satisfied when all three bug-like creatures were smoking and lifeless. The gold Elite, however, was not. He clenched his powerful fists, and reviewed rhe problem. H gave a curt smile. And ordered the cannon to fire now.
Vinny knew when things were about to get messy, and this was one of them. Although the Marines had managed to escape from the base using a back exit, the plasma fire could easily destroy the city. The golden Elite, know as Isa 'Volamee, called his troops back, savoring the frustration on the Marines' face. Lewis commanded that his troops run as fast as the can, while he fights the Covenant alone.
"Sir, you do realize that you are a crazy son of a bitch if you go ahead with that, right?" Sergeant Billy Radnert commented. Colonel Lewis gave a kind smile, and never gave an answer. He just picked up a rocket launcher, and fired, killing a Hunter. Isa 'Volamee spat, his mandables clinking with anger. He surveyed anothe plan in his head, and grinned. He ordered the cannon to face up, just a little bit, only a few meters.
The engineer Elite was confused, that would miss the target altogether! But, he was outranked by more than 3 levels, so he followed his orders. The huge blue plasma fired at the sky, but oddly, it hit a building. Then, everyone, even Vinny, caught on to the plan. Now, the scurrying Marines were about to fall victim to a trap, and soon, the fifty Marines supposed to escape, were crushed, dead and lifeless.
Colonel Lewis felt his heart exploded, lieterally, he suffering from a heart attack, a massive one, and by the looks of Isa 'Volamee, one that would end his career as a UNSC Marine. Colonel Lewis fell to the ground, dead. Death, the element that ended Isa favored more than fear, hate, happiness, all combined. He lusted for death, the death of an enemy, of an ally, it was all just a game to him, nothing was real, nothing was truly scary.
Vinny cried out. "Colonel!!!" his tears dripped down his rugged face. Although no amount of soap or water could have cleaned the dirt on face, the tears somehow cleansed it. Revealing his white skin, his tight white skin.
Isa looked at Vinny, and expected him to run away, or at least attack, but he didn't, he just stood there, head down. Isa gave a curious look, why what flowing through the human's head?
Then, 20 Pelicans rushed toward the battle-zone, each wielding a Scorpion tank in it's clutches. Isa gasped. No matter how many Covenant troops he had in his arensal, the Scorpion tanks were too much, he calmed down, and ordered a retreat.
A large Covenant spaceship broke through the clouds, not bothering to fire at the Pelicans, that would just end up killing more Covenant than humans. Isa climbed aboard last, gave one look at Vinny, who was boarding as well, and waved a fist in the air, promising that he would kill him.
