The Desert is Hell
Date: 20 June 2004, 1:37 AM
The Corporal knew there was no way he could ever win this fight; they were easily outnumbered 20 to 1. But he had to keep fighting. He couldn't let the Covenant take this outpost. It was the last line of defense for Egypt. His squad's orders were to hold the Covenant at all costs. The "all costs" part was in the midst of happening. The Corporal's thoughts were interrupted by a marine yelling, "They've busted through the-" The Corporal turned around just in time to see the marine get perforated by plasma fire. A horde of grunts came swarming through the hole blown in the walls by a wraith. An elite saw him, screamed a challenge, and rushed at him. The Corporal opened up on the elite, but his assault rifle couldn't get through the alien's shields. The last thing he ever saw was an energy sword come flying at him.
Outpost on border of Egypt, 5 hours later
The marine opened his eyes to see Grunts scavenging through his dead squad's bodies for anything of interest. He wanted to get up, to kill them for killing his friends, but even thinking hurt, so he just closed his eyes, waiting to die. He woke up later to see bodies everywhere, and a fire in the barracks. Oh, crap! He thought, that fire's gonna hit the ammo dump! He managed to pull himself out of the outpost and into the harsh desert of Egypt. Wait, he thought, who am I? I'm Webb, Doug Private in the UNSC. Code 18459-B-3423. Well that's that, he thought. Just then a cloud of dust came roaring toward him. Damn, he thought, I survive the Covenant, only to get killed by sand. Then that dust cloud took a shape. He could see heads. The Covenant was coming to finish him. Then, as it came closer, he saw that it was a warthog, he was saved!
Border of Egypt Military Calendar March 16, 2553 1400 hours, Warthog
"Hit it marine!" yelled the sergeant, "We have to see if there are survivors at the outpost!" "I'm scared, Sergeant! I don't wanna die out here!" screamed Private Perez. "Shut up and drive private!" They got to the outpost and saw a body moving. "Identify yourself marine!" Doug looked up, "Doug Webb, Private." The Sergeant paused as he saw the marine's wounded body. "Consider yourself rescued." "Thank you Sergeant...," The marine paused as he read the Sergeant's tag, "Johnson." "Get in the Warthog soldier!" He looked at the marine's plasma scored legs. " Err... Perez! Get this soldier into the 'Hog!" "Yes sir!" The private replied. "Umm sir?! 4 Ghosts inbound!" "Oh not good! Get in Perez and step on it!" The Sergeant hopped onto the gunner's turret and readied the chain gun on it. Perez gunned the warthog sending up plumes of sand and dust. "Enemy contact 9:00!" The Sergeant spun the chain gun and opened fire on the Ghosts. He managed to blast a Brute's head off, and he cheered. But then the other Brutes wanted revenge. "GET GOING!" And the Warthog was off, with the Ghosts in hot pursuit. The Ghosts shot their plasma guns at the Warthog and one glanced off two inches from Webb's head. He turned in his seat and shot the engine of another Ghost. It blew up and became a fireball in the hot desert sand. "There get on that cliff! There's another outpost there," yelled the Sergeant. Perez turned and started up the cliff as Webb shot another Ghost in the wing. It flew out of control and slammed into a boulder, the last Ghost chased them. Suddenly Perez took a sharp turn, sending rocks off the cliff. The Ghost fortunately (or unfortunately) didn't react fast enough, and flew off the cliff. Welcome to Alpha- WHERE'S ALPHA BASE!?" All that was left of Alpha Base was some rubble, dead and decaying bodies and fire. "I leave for 2 hours and look what happened." Johnson muttered. "Not quite 5 star, but this will be our home until I can get reinforcements. Spread and police weapons, ammo, food whatever, also Perez, find some weapons we can use for defense. We'll need it."
Egypt, 1900 hours (UNSC military clock) Covenant Banshee en route to field command
The Elite 'Zammenai sighed, he only racked up 20 kills in taking the outpost. But it was quite fun stabbing a corporal to death. His super-sensitive eyes caught a light on a nearby cliff. He also saw two wrecked Ghosts. "Alien scum," he muttered, and brought the Banshee down lower. He saw stationary guns, too much for one Banshee. I'll alert field command about human survivors and come back and purge those scum.
5 Earth Hours later...
The Covenant surrounded the remains of Alpha Base and prepared to blow it to pieces. Just then a Pelican came roaring in and three figures in green armor hopped onto the cliff. The Sergeant got his reinforcements.
