Defending America Chapter 1
Date: 9 April 2004, 1:51 AM
Authors Note: This is my first fan fic and I would like people to read it and post comments. If I get enough good feedback, I'll continue the Series
1138 Hours, September 17, 2552 (Military Calendar) Outskirts of Los Angeles, United States, Planet Earth
Sazo Sasoree, along with his 20,000 other Elite comrades, charged swiftly to his human targets, his golden clad dodging their futile "bullets". He could smell them, the humans were just over the next hill, and they didn't even know what was about to happen. This made Sazo laugh. Sazo was getting closer to the top of the hill, closer to the humans, and closer to the last large city on this feeble continent. Sazo and his armor would take 'Loz Annjaleez' as the humans called it, and slaughter all the filthy humans. He was at the top of the hill. He then paused and turned to his comrades. "It is time!" He roared and began to charge down the hill. He took the first few steps down the hill then exploded, along with 5,000 other elites.
Private Morgan laughed. The elites had fell for the trap, well actually they fell on the trap which happened to be about a thousand Lotus Anti-tank Mines buried at the top of the hill. There was a battalion of marines buried in bunkers at the bottom of the hill. 10,000 marines that wanted to taste Covenant Blood were sitting in pure titanium bunkers aiming rocket launchers at the top of the hill. People laughed as the surviving Covenant stumbled over the bloody rags which used to be their comrades. They fell and tripped down the hill and "ran" into rockets, which then promptly sent their remains to the far corners of the battlefield. The hill was now a violent purple-blue mixed with hundreds of multi colored suits of broken armor. But soon the elites stopped tripping on their "teammates", and made it to the bottom of the hill. The marines had did a good job and taken out about half of them, but now they were running out of rockets and the elites were about 100 meters from the bunkers'. Luckily the Elites had underestimated the humans' ingenuity. The elites thought that the mines were the only trick. Maybe they forgot which planet they are on. Situated about 50 meters from the bunkers was a long thick wick that the 10,000 elites were steadily approaching. When the elites were 15 meters from the wick, a marine back one of the bunkers took a lighter and lit the wick. The fire raced along the wick, or rope as you might as well call it since it was that thick.
Nara Nayoree charged to the human bunkers with a thirst for human blood. He looked on the ground and noticed a long mysterious wire of some sort. He paused and kneeled as his comrades charged past him. He also noticed that the ground around him and his elites was, damp. He looked up and saw a fire racing to and finally reaching the end of the strange wire. The last thing he saw was an intense flash of red-orange light.
Private Morgan high-fived his teammate. They had doused the ground in Starship Fuel, which was abnormally flammable. He watched as 50 meters away, Hell had opened. The ground was ablaze as well with the 10,000 elites and the fire was so intense that all you could see of the elites was their outlines running about in agony looking for a place to die. Private Morgan could feel the heat from the fire all the way in the bunker, he watched as countless elites just exploded into ash as their bodies gave out to the 3000-degree fire consuming their bodies. A handful of elites that were still ablaze started to run towards the bunker in the hope of killing a human and dying honorably, they would have succeeded too had it not been a few rockets that convinced them to blow up. Only when fire died out, did the marines get a chance to survey the fiery carnage. Thousands of piles of still smoking ash were being blown about by the wind. The ground was littered with red glowing embers still burning. Morgan spotted the body of a lone elite, crawling on the ground. It was smoldering black and missing both of its all it's limbs except one arm, which was pulling it's body toward the bunker.
Nama Nomoree pulled his pitiful burned and charred body to the human bunker with his remaining limb. He would kill every last human, with his bare hand. He will win this battle for his people and be honored by the Prophets. Just as he reassured himself he would be victorious, his head exploded and his brains spilled on the charred smoking ground.
"Nice Shot!" Morgan's teammate said to him after his successful sniper shot. The humans had saved this city from covenant attack. It was the first major battle won against the Covenant on Earth without human casualties. This would show the Covenant Scum that this is our planet, and they should get the hell off.

1358 Hours September 31, 2552 (Military Calendar) Washington DC, United States Planet Earth
Private Morgan stuck a fresh clip into his battle rifle. Him and approximately 500 other marines were standing in formation gathered around the famous Washington Monument. He shielded his eyes, the glare from the Reflecting Pool was unbearably bright. Command told them that the Covenant would be in DC by 1400 hours. That was just about now. 500 solemn bodies were standing in formation around their nation's capital ready and willing to die for not only their country, but also their planet. They would drown the Covenant in their own blood to stop them from taking this city, or die trying. If they stop the Covenant, they could fortify DC, and the numerous remaining forts around America. There were only This was America's last city left, and coincidentally it was the most important. America's National Guard were the only humans fighting the Covenant in the US. UNSC ground forces were busy fighting much more important battles that if lost would jeopardize the planet, not a single country. Morgan was prepared to do anything to stop them. He was tired of it. The Covenant has been harassing Humanity's colonies for decades, then they destroyed Reach, which made it more personal, now, they are on our planet. Now they will realize they pissed off the wrong species, and invaded the wrong planet.
Sazay Sonoree marched towards the capital city in the pitiful country with his large army. He and his army of 300 Elites and a handful of hunters would seize this human city, he was sure of it. Yet deep inside of the elite's mind, he had many doubts that he would live to see another day. When the Covenant landed on Earth, they expected the invasion to pass quickly just like when they invaded the other human colonies. But it wasn't. Sazay remembered seeing a human fighting in another city with 6 elites surrounding him. He killed three of them with his rifle, but then was struck by the butt of an elites rifle. The elites completely surrounded him and prepared to fire. He pulled out a grenade, primed it, then screamed "HUMANITY!" and detonated it. As he was contemplating that he soon realized that they had reached the city. It had a collection of old white buildings scattered about. Very old and ruined, Sazay mocked the human capital city out loud, it was a pitiful city. He scanned the area, then saw his target. There was a large pool of water beside a tall obelisk, around the pool were the last humans left on this continent. The humans were about 200 units away. He took out his scope and surveyed the army. The looks upon their faces were terrifying; every last one of them had not a single trace of fear in their eyes. They looked as if they could tear the Covenant army apart with their hands. Reluctantly he gave the order to charge, and the army ran towards the humans. And for the first time in his life, Sazay felt a new emotion: Fear.
Private Morgan felt the ground shake, he looked to the east and about 90 meters ahead, was a Covenant army. Most of everyone pulled out a sniper rifle, others, a rocket launcher. As the elites came within range, about 55 meters, the humans opened fire. CRACK! The first line of elites dropped to the ground missing their head but having a blue fountain of blood in its place. CRACK! The second line of elites fell to the ground, missing limbs.
Sazay jumped as he avoided a sniper round which missed him but humbly made its home in the head of a red armored elite. He gave the order to attack. "Open fire!" Thousands of bolts of plasma erupted from the charging army and flew to the human army. Hundreds of humans dropped, clutching huge gaping wounds in their bodies. They fell to the ground sizzling. Private Morgan watched as people two feet in front of him dropped down. He wiped his face with his hand as a wave of red washed over him. The elites were only 20 meters away. He took out his battle rifle along with everybody else, and opened fire.
Sazay yelled as a volley of human bullets blew his left arm off. He ignored it and charged on to the humans. Sazay continued to fire his weapon. There were about 250 elites left, and countless more dropping. The new emotion returned to him.
Private Morgan fired until he was out of ammo, then pulled out a shotgun. Just then, a green plasma beam erupted from the charging elites and flew over them and connected with the Washington Monument. A series of cracks spread through the obelisk, then the structure gave out and the whole thing collapsed. A shockwave of dust reached the marines and enveloped them. Suddenly the marines couldn't see anything and started shooting in random directions killing their comrades. Morgan's eyes were burning from the thick dust, but he kept them open for survival's sake. He fired his rifle at silhouettes running amongst the dust.
Sazay secretly praised the Hunter that shot the obelisk. Now the Elites had the advantage, Sazay along with the remaining Elites tapped a series of commands on their wrist. Their helmets had turned on Thermal Mode, which allowed them to see the humans perfectly. Sazay saw a marine shoot a fellow marine in the head, this amused Sazay greatly. He decided to let the humans destroy themselves. He told his elites to stand down and watch.
Private Morgan aimed his pistol at a dark silhouette running his way. He shot it five times in the mid-section. The shape fell onto his legs. Morgan knelt down and looked closely, and was terrified to find that he had shot a marine. "Cease Fire!" Morgan yelled, realizing that they are killing each other. The marines stopped firing abruptly. They too realized they had been killing other marines. Morgan noticed the dust had started to settle. "Rifles ready!" The Sergeant yelled. The dust had completely settled and the battlefield was clear. What surprised Morgan was that the Elites were standing still 10 meters in front on them, with their rifles down. He took advantage of this and opened fire. His first bullet struck and Elite in the leg and blew it's shin off, crippling it.
AHHHHH! Sazay yelled as the human attack caught them by surprise, a human had shot and severed his shin, he was now on the ground bleeding. With their Thermal Vision on, they didn't know the dust had settled and were taken off guard. An elite in front of him took a sniper round to the head, which then exploded. Sazay wiped the brains and blood of his face. His army opened fire. Plasma impacted on the humans and burnt their flesh as they fell to the ground. One human had charged the elites but was stopped by a Fuel Rod blast. His stomach exploded and he fell to the ground, his intestines flowing out of the gaping hole in his mid-section. Sazay continued to fire while on the ground, and to his surprise the Covenant were starting to win. There were about 100 Elites left and only about 45 humans left. His army moved in for the kill. Sazay lay on the ground wishing he could help with slaughtering the human vermin. His wish never came true. Just then a sniper round tore a hole into his neck ending his life.
Morgan and the remaining 20 marines backed up into a circle. The 100 Elites surrounding them. The Elites leveled their rifles. Morgan closed his eyes. He knew this was the end, but they had almost succeeded. Morgan opened his eyes and wondered why his body was still intact. He looked at a red armored Elite, which seemed to have heard something behind the marines. Morgan looked back and saw silhouettes running their way. Then, out of the haze, a green giant appeared, about 2 meters tall. A Spartan. The Elites cried something out in their tongue, then turned around and ran for it. The Spartan had a squad of marines with him, they fired their rifles and shot the elites in the back. They tried to run but it was no use.
Moray Maoronee ran for dear life. He watched as the Green Human caught up to an elite, took his head and snapped it off. The head rolled on the ground, an expression of terror and confusion frozen on it. Ob He couldn't believe the Green Human was here, the human was feared all throughout the Covenant Empire. Moray ran as fast as he could, but he couldn't run faster then the sniper round which tore his head in half.
Private Morgan thanked the Spartan. But he said nothing. "Marines, I am Master Chief Spartan One One Seven. DC has been saved and will be fortified by other marines. But YOU boys and girls we are transporting to Base Omega in Colorado. A Covenant Army is steadily approaching, are mission is to repel them. Understand?" "Yes Sir!" Everyone yelled in unison. Morgan looked up as 3 Pelicans roared towards them, then they touched the ground with a loud THUD! "Let's go!" The Chief yelled. Everyone climbed on, and closed their eyes. Morgan had been fighting for 2 hours straight. But seeing the look on the Covenant's faces as the Chief arrived made it worth it. He closed his eyes and smiled as the Pelican lifted up, and roared away.
