Covenant Pt. 1 (Sangheili Ch.1)
Date: 26 May 2005, 4:42 PM
Covenant Sangheili Chapter 1.
First Age of Reclamation/8000 years before the creation of Earth Tolam'ee roared in triumph standing over the limp body of a Prophet. After four long, agonizing months of fighting, the battle for Jang'lee IV was over. The bodies of Sangheili and Prophets littered this most recent and final battlefield. The remaining Prophet vessels departed the surface swiftly, evading the Elite fleet by mere minutes. Tolam'ee viewed his fallen comrades and friends sadly, cursing the Senate for electing to not ally with these powerful Prophets. Just two years previously, the enemy's leader, the High Prophet, Truth, had offered the Elites their "Great Journey" which was a deep religious belief that truly dizzied Tolam'ee. However, even if the religion was deep and confusing, it was compelling, and he thought that joining the "Great Journey" would have been worth saving as many lives at would have, and still could. He knew that the Prophets had not given up; they had just ceased their campaign on this planet. They would be back. Not here, perhaps, but Tolam'ee knew that they would not give way. Truth sighed and closed his eyes in disgust as he learned of the defeat on the planet Jang'lee. The Forerunner desired the Great Journey begin, and these Sangheili, the most capable warrior he had ever seen, would not conform to his rule. He briefly mused at the notion of abandoning the Sangheili, and moving to the next species on their list of desired assimilates, Unggoy, who's original purpose was to fill the roll of grunts in the army, but may have to suffice as shock troops, at least for now shock troops. Truth shook the though as quickly as he had composed it, realizing the importance of the Sangheili, who would be the perfect elite troops to help depart on the Great Journey. As Truth contemplated the situation, Suffering hovered into the room appearing quite pleased, smiling at the High Prophet.
"Noble Truth," he hailed briskly. I have joyous news for our cause. Large groups of the Sangheili, calling themselves the "Reformists" have joined our ranks. There are at least ten thousand of them. They claim to be our undying servants, realizing the holiness of our endeavor. They swore an oath to always remain loyal, and to follow the Great Journey without question. They request a sermon, so that they might learn of the Journey in greater detail. Tolam'ee sighed, now questioning his decision to join the Reformists. He found himself standing in the vast hanger of a Prophet Cruiser, its interior glowing a dark blue color a truly dizzying change from the bright red of his species' vessels. He and the rest of the Sangheili elite were awaiting a prophet to deliver a sermon. Suddenly, he felt as he had betrayed the Senate, and debated weather or not he should return. Then he realized that the Senate had betrayed him, when they sent him and his troops to die on Jang'lee IV His thoughts drifted to the few stories he had heard of The Great Journey, but quickly reverted back to the anger that he still felt from the demise of so many friends. The Prophets would make every death count for something, for the continuation of the Journey.
Presently, the Prophet calling himself "Suffering" appeared from the far end of the room, smiling warmly at the group of conformists. "Noble Sangheili, I thank you for your decision to connect with us. We are overjoyed to finally form a covenant with you. My superior and I hope that you will become influential among your people, and convince them to also, join our new-found alliance. Surely you have realized the benefits of converting, and you might cause them to see also. The downfall of your Senate is imperative, and it will be the first mission we send you on. When it fall, so will order amongst your race, and they will look for somewhere to turn. Secondly, we have new armor for you. The ceremonial plates you bear will not do. This is what you will wear from now on." The Prophet floated to his left, and gestured to a small container, which opened, revealing several full suits of armor, each a different color, and each, eerily appealing. Tolam'ee stared in awe at the red, blue, black, gold, and white body armor. "You will be suited, according to your ranks. Soon, you will be put through a series of tests, which will determine your prowess, and consequently, your rank among the troops. Follow me, and you will be put through the tests. Soon, my friends, you will be inducted, and aid us in the quest to begin our Great Journey.
The Elites roared approval, and marched forward.
