Part I: Plots
Date: 18 January 2007, 3:58 am
Victoria, UNSC Colony world
111 Tauris System
Planetary Governors compound
23:19 VST (Victoria Standard Time)
2552
The three men slipped from the shadows and ran across the deserted street. Slamming themselves into a high stone wall, they paused to catch their breath and to confirm that they hadn't been detected. Satisfied that they had not been spotted, the leader of the three reached into his black hooded trench coat and pulled out a weapon, a M6D with a homemade silencer attachment. He planned on doing this one quietly.
The sentry was an easy kill. The man had been on watch for approximately four hours now, and was noticeably bored with his job. The muffled 'phaffft' from the M6D ended his boredom and he collapsed in a heap in the dirt. The mans two companions ran forward and grabbed the sentry by his shoulder guards on his armor and dragged him into the shadows around the corner from the main gate.
Removing the dead sentry's code key and radio, the three moved towards the gate. The leader raised the code key to swipe it through the electronic lock but paused when he heard a distinct whirring noise getting louder. It was a MAKO drone. The three pressed themselves against the outer wall and hardly dared to breath.
The MAKO paused momentarily at the front gate, noting the absence of the sentry, it scanned the area, and finding nothing, moved onwards towards the rear of the compound.
As the drone's engine noise faded, the three men breathed a sigh of relief. The anti-personnel missiles that the MAKO carried would have meant trouble. The men approached the main gate and swiped their stolen code key. The massive locks clicked back and the gate swung open. Avoiding the CCV system, the trio slipped into the guard building just inside the gate. The leader held up a gloved hand. The sound of a holovision system was emanating from a room at the end of the hall. The latest sitcom from Earth from the sounds of it. 'Well' he thought to himself 'I hope this guy likes what he's watching.'
Holding a small shaving mirror, he carefully peeked into the room. Two guards were sitting with their backs towards him watching the holovision, and laughing hysterically.
"Quite amusing, I'm told." he said as he walked boldly into the room.
"WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU!"
The guards were answered by two muffled shots and a pool of dark crimson blood started to form underneath where the bodies now lay.
"You two! Take their weapons!"
His two companions walked forward and took the two assault rifles propped up against the wall. Checking to make sure that the magazines were full, they reached into the satchels slung over their shoulders and withdrew large matte black cylinders which they fitted over the protruding front barrel of the assault rifle. The silencers were the best that money could buy. Recently bought on the thriving black market off world, they were billed as being able to effectively suppress both the sound and the flash of the old model assault rifles, which was perfect, because that was all this backward planet's garrison had. Pulling their facemasks over their heads, the men proceeded outside into the compound.
Sticking to the shadows and moving quickly, in case the MAKO returned, they achieved the front door of the residence in under a minute. The door opened with a swipe of their stolen code key, 'Not very tight security you have here boys.' the leader mused as he led his men inside the house. He had the floor plan memorized, their spy had done well. They made their way through the foyer towards the grand staircase leading up to the second level. Their target was the Planetary Governor, the false ruler installed there by the Colonial Administration Authority. For years he had hunted them, his government had sent super-soldiers to kill their leaders and the UNSC garrison had retaken Camp New Hope, but now
now, he was to die by their hands! Ironic.
"Lets go, three doors down on the left!"
They moved
too soon.
"HOLY SHIT!" a startled servant, returning from the kitchen area in the basement, saw them and dove for cover down a passageway as two bullets slammed into the wall where his body had been moments before.
"Damn It!
Kill him!" the leader ordered!
All thoughts of stealth were forgotten now. If that man made it to an alarm panel, the entire garrison would be on them in a matter of minutes!
He didn't know who they were, but they defiantly didn't belong in the house at this hour. He sprinted around a corner and heard muffled shots come from somewhere behind and then the marble cracked and fell in chunks where he had been standing only moments before! Now he was being shot at! He should have stayed in the kitchen with Anastasia. There! An alarm panel! He reached and flipped open the cover. Running footsteps were getting louder
.got to do this! Hitting the keys like a mad man he typed in the emergency code and hit the enter key seconds before three bullets ended any thoughts of terror, Anastasia, or anything, forever.
Instantly alarm klaxons sounded throughout the compound.
"SHIT!
Lets go!" the leader commanded.
Running up the staircase they turned towards the Governors chambers just as a Security squad rounded the corner. They fired.
One of his men went down, more like his torso went down. A pink mist had coated the adjoining wall on the other side of the passageway. The leader and his remaining man ducked into a room and took a frag grenade out of his satchel. The security team, bolstered by their kill would be taken by surprise and that would cost them their lives. His man rolled it out the door and it exploded with a loud report. Seconds later they burst from the room and killed the two remaining troopers, both of which were missing their legs and writhing around on the floor in pain.
The Governors quarters were just ahead. Reaching the archway, they swiped the stolen card a final time. Miraculously, it worked. The two men marched into the room and tore the covers off the frightened old man who was attempting to hide behind them.
"Who the HELL do you think you are!" "Do you know who I am?!?"
"Yes Governor
.we know exactly who you are
and you are coming with us."
"Like hell I
.." and his protest was cut short by a sharp rap across the skull by the M6D.
They gathered up the now unconscious old man and dragged him to a window over looking the rear of the compound. Shooting it out, the leader took a rope out of his satchel and lowered it down to the ground. Attaching the Governor to a line, he lowered him out the window and then followed. His companion moved away from his place at the door and made for the window, exactly as the door exploded inwards and more of the Governors' Security forces poured into the room. He didn't stand a chance.
"He's got the Governor! Stop them!"
Moving to the back wall, where his contact was supposed to be waiting, he listened to the commotion coming from the front of the compound. Seconds later he heard a vehicle pull up on the other side of the wall. It was his contact. He attached a rope to the Governor and tied it to his belt, then he clambered to the top of the wall. The Security troops had realized his plan and were now mere seconds away. He could hear them shouting and he knew that time was running out. He reached the top of the wall and turned to haul the Governor over, he almost made it.
The rifle shot was followed by a sensation of sharp pain in his neck. The high velocity bullet, he found out later, had missed the main artery by mere millimeters. The force of the impact launched him over the wall, but he had dropped the rope. His accomplice bundled him into the van and they sped away into the night. He wasn't worried about the bodies of his men, the UNSCDF was too humane to do anything to them and besides they hadn't been carrying anything that could identify them
..at least he hoped they were not that stupid, they knew the rules. He passed out in the rear of the bouncing van, with these thoughts fresh in his mind, as it returned to their hidden base in the forest. They would continue to strike, and strike again until the UNSC and the CAA was driven from Victoria forever.
